Chicago, like most cities, has an ugly history of racism that has led to the south side being under-appreciated, under-developed, under-served. Which is sad and shameful not only because of the communities that are struggling, but because the south side is full of gorgeous and special architecture.
Take for example this rowhouse, built in 1888. Incredible! It's located in Bronzeville, which I will admit I don't know much about - it's one of the top neighborhoods on my list to go explore. Geographically, though, it's in a great spot: just minutes from the Loop, and right off the Green line.
This home looks to be in great shape. It has the original stair railings and an amazing brick fireplace. The kitchen is usable, though pretty 90s - it would be great to give it a period appropriate makeover. Possibly my favorite feature is the curved bay windows in one of the bedrooms.
4 beds, 2 baths, and only $200k. Somebody buy this house - and invite me over for a tour of the neighborhood.
